Who we help · E-commerce & Online Sellers

Bookkeeping for Twin Cities online sellers.

Amazon, Shopify, Etsy, eBay — every channel pays out differently, and the deposit that hits your bank is never the whole story. We turn marketplace settlements, fees, and inventory into books that show what you actually earned.

Common things we see

What your books actually need.

01

Net deposits, reconciled back to gross.

Amazon, Etsy, and eBay pay you net — after referral fees, FBA fees, refunds, and a chargeback that surfaces six weeks later. We book the gross sale, then record every fee and return so revenue and margin are real, not just whatever landed in the bank.

02

On the marketplaces, the tax is already handled.

Marketplace facilitator laws now cover every state with a sales tax — Amazon, Etsy, and eBay calculate, collect, and remit on your behalf. For most sellers that means no separate filing on those channels. We confirm it's being done right and keep the records straight.

03

Your own store is the part that's on you.

Sales through your own Shopify or website aren't covered by the marketplaces. Once those direct sales cross a state's economic-nexus line — often $100,000 or 200 transactions, and the same in Minnesota — registering and collecting there is your responsibility. We track where you're getting close.

04

Inventory that becomes a deduction when it sells.

Stock you buy isn't an expense the day you pay for it — it becomes cost of goods sold when the item ships. We keep inventory and COGS clean (FIFO or weighted-average, applied consistently) so year-end profit isn't a guess. Most sellers can use the simplified small-business method.

05

Sales tax is money you're holding, not money you made.

Tax you collect belongs to the state — it's a liability sitting in your account, never revenue. Booked as income, it quietly inflates your profit and your tax bill. We record it where it belongs so your numbers tell the truth.

06

The 1099-K, in plain terms.

After the recent law change, the 1099-K threshold is back to $20,000 and 200 transactions for 2025 — so smaller sellers may not get one at all. Either way, the income is reportable, and your books are what the return is built on. We reconcile every 1099-K to what actually happened.

Which package fits

Most e-commerce & online sellers owners we work with start with Books + Tax.

E-commerce gets interconnected fast — marketplace settlements, inventory cost basis, and multi-state sales tax all feed the same return. Splitting that between a bookkeeper and a separate preparer is where things fall through. Books + Tax keeps one set of eyes on it from monthly reconciliation through the annual filing.

Books + Tax

Full-year bookkeeping plus annual tax filing — one person, one bill.
